Born and bred in Perth Western Australia, Alex started his musical journey at a young age always banging on pots, pans and anything that would sound like a drum (including his own body!). Alex’s musical interest was always directed towards the drums and it was in these early years that Alex developed his ear to comprehend different rhythms and beats.
In 2001 at age 12, hijacking his father’s bass in order to fill the gap in his school friend’s pop punk band, Alex was soon hooked on the power of music. Alex Joined his first original band Seraphim at age 15. The band went on to garner significant attention within the Perth Alt Rock scene. After releasing their debut single “Habit” to great reviews in 2005, Seraphim disbanded. 2005 also saw Alex Join melodic death metal band Inter Alia. Alex’s tenure in Inter Alia only lasted out the year and in 2006 he was asked to join upcoming Death/Doom metal band Noctis as their bass player. By mid 2007 Alex was also playing in Death rock outfit Psychonaut, featuring guitarists Mark De Vattimo and Simone Dow.
In late 2007 after just having turned 19 years old, Alex was invited to join Australia’s premier prog metal band VOYAGER. Several months after joining the band Alex traveled with VOYAGER on tours to Sydney and Melbourne to promote their newly released album "uniVers". In early 2008 VOYAGER then successfully completed a European tour to Germany, Denmark, The Netherlands and Switzerland.
Noctis released their debut EP "Of Future's Past" in November of 2007 however in the years to follow, Alex's involvement in the band continued to evolve. With the departure of original lead vocalist and school friend Samuel Terlick, Alex for the first time became the front man and lead vocalist of the band. This shift to the forefront of the band brought with it new responsibility in the form of composing lyrics and vocal lines whilst maintaining his role as bassist.
After several years of intense writing sessions, Noctis home-recorded a concept double-album before finally disbanding in 2011 due to increased tension between the members.
Since joining VOYAGER, Alex as bassist and backing vocalist of the band have released 4 full-length albums and toured extensively both nationally and abroad. He has played shows in The United States, Canada, Indonesia, United Kingdom, Europe and Scandinavia and has supported some of the worlds biggest metal bands such as Deftones, Opeth, Katatonia, Orphaned Land, Leprous, Karnivool, Rhapsody of Fire, Devin Townsend, Queensryche, Alestorm, Evergrey, The Algorithm, Amorphis, Epica, Nightwish, Soilwork, Oceans of Slumber as well as playing the prestigious PROGPOWER EU & USA festivals multiple times.
In an effort to make music a full time occupation, 2014 saw Alex beginning to perform cover songs as a solo act around his hometown of Perth. Making the transition from bass player to fully-fledged professional singer & acoustic guitarist, Alex has amassed hundreds of solo shows in this time; playing at weddings, awards night ceremonies, private and corporate fundraisers/events, pubs, restaurants and is on-call as a last minute fill in bass player for Perth's other great acts: Nathan Gaunt, Monty Cotton, The Healys & Blue Hornet.
2017 sees Voyager release their latest album GHOST MILE to critical acclaim.
Alex is currently working on his debut solo ep due for release in 2017.
